Clogged Breast Duct And Therapeutic Ultrasound
Clogged milk ducts are painful and make breastfeeding more challenging. Once you have a clogged duct, your chances of getting another increases if you aren’t careful. Worst of all, a clogged duct can lead to mastitis if not properly treated. Blocked ducts are associated with breast engorgement and may result in a localized tender breast lump or area of blushed color; the breast may feel hot and tender.
Although, research has not been conclusive as to the positive effects of therapeutic ultrasound for clogged ducts, I have seen first hand how patients feel an immediate relief after the treatment of ultrasound is complete.
Therapeutic ultrasound is (US) is the use of sound waves above the range of human hearing to treat injuries like muscle strains or spasms. It is mostly used by physical therapists to bring deep heat and blood flow to an injured muscle tissue. There are many settings of therapeutic ultrasound, using different intensities and frequencies of sound, but all share the basic principle of “stimulating” or even provoking tissue with sound waves above the range of human hearing.
Ultrasound can be used for a clogged milk duct to release the blockage. If you experience these symptoms please give our office a call. Treatment is quick with wonderful results.
